Located in southern France in an unusual setting near Clermont l'Hérault, the Salagou Lake is a natural leisure area unspoiled by urbanisation.
A southern French site definitely worth a visit! The combination of geological attractions here offers a surprising range of contrasting colours, textures and shapes.
This artificial lake is perfect for leisure activities. While you're here, don't forget to sample the delicious local cuisine.

A vast stretch of water surrounded by dry, red, rocky hills
Situated in a hilly landscape, Lake Salagou offers an incredible range of colours, resulting from a number of geological phenomena. The redbrick of the "ruffes" (argillaceous sediment with a high iron oxide content) contrasts with the black, volcanic basalt.
At an altitude of 535 m, Mont Liausson overlooks the region offering a great view over the small French villages in the surrounding area.
This 7 km long artificial lake was created in the late 1960s to irrigate local farms.
A huge choice of leisure activities
Its high levels of sunshine in the summer and the Tramontane, (the wind which blows here), provide for a wide choice of leisure activities including bathing, fishing, sailing, canoeing, kite surfing, hiking, horse riding, mountain biking... or simply relaxing!
High-quality local products
The area is also famous for its lucque olives, its honey and its vineyards.
