An archaeological site listed as a French National Monument. One of the largest Gallic villages in southern France.
A highly original cultural site perfect for visiting as a family or among friends.
Situated at 10 km from the town of Béziers, this archaeological site provides an amazing glimpse of life in a protohistoric village.
Built on a rocky headland, it offers a 360° view across the plains and the vineyards including the strange dry lake at Montady.

The Oppidum d'Ensérune is located in a strategic position
It is situated on a steep-sided hill, at what was a meeting point of road and maritime routes back in its day. Down below, the Via Domitia passed nearby, linking Italy to Spain.
Today, we can see the Canal du Midi. It crosses the hill via the Malpas tunnel built in 1679, spanning a length of 170 m.
Visit a leading site in the history of Mediterranean civilisation
This oppidum is typical of living conditions in southern Gaul back in the Bronze Age, at the time of the Roman conquest. It was continuously inhabited throughout this entire period. The site's museum presents the main results of the excavations including an excellent collection of Gallic ceramics and weapons.
Narrated tours during the high season or unguided visits with an audio tour.
